New Heaven and New Earth

In this world so full of chaos, everyone longs to have the said, new heaven and new earth where according to the Bible, has no more pains and no more sufferings to be experienced, but only pure joy, peace, love, and contentment. With enough words in the book of Isaiah and Revelation describing what it is on the “New Heaven and New Earth”, people began to desire being in that place to escape life’s sufferings and hardships, and became so keen of everything that is happening around hoping that those events would lead them to the said new heaven and new earth.

Yes, the “New Heaven and New Earth” is such a desirable place for everyone to be in. However, with all of the words used in the Bible describing what is in the new heaven and the new earth, and with some who claim to have been in that place in their near-death experiences, still, nobody knows what to expect is in there.

“See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. “Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; the one who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere child; the one who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed.  They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the work of their hands. They will not labor in vain, nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them. Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the Lord. – Isaiah 65:17-25

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:1-4

So what is really there to expect? Aside from the mentioned “no more weeping and crying; no more deaths;” only fairness, love, joy, peace, equality; and being attended to by the Lord before we even ask Him of the things we need and want, what else is there to expect in the new heaven and the new earth.

Well, we all do have a lot of questions with what really is to expect in the new heaven and earth that was mentioned in the Bible. But then, maybe what the Bible tells of it is enough for us to simply imagine how comfortable life is in there as compared to our lives here on earth. Yes, we are to be thankful of our lives here on earth, but we could never deny the fact that oftentimes, because of so many challenges and instances with purposes that we could never grasp, we tend to lose hope with a feeling of wanting to surrender. For now, only one thing is for sure; that someday, we will be in that “new heaven and new earth” that God has prepared for us; a place that appears more than what we are expecting and imagining how it appears to be.
